  • December 29, 2016 – Cities for Action issues a letter to the President of the United States, thanking the administration for ending the National Security Entry-Exit Registration Systems program following an earlier call with the White House and urging the administration to continue support for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients and for immigrants granted Temporary Protected Status.  

  • December 11, 2016 – Cities for Action members convened in Nashville, TN as part of the National Immigrant Integration Conference. 

  • October 25, 2016 – Cities for Action issues a letter to the Secretary of Homeland Security and the Secretary of State, commending the administration for temporarily suspending the deportation of Haitians in the U.S. and calling for the extension of Temporary Protected Status to Haitians who are impacted by Hurricane Matthew. 

  • July 26, 2016 – Cities for Action issues an open letter to the next President of the United States, calling for a commitment to immigration reform in the first 100 days of the administration. 

  • June 23, 2016 – Cities for Action issues a statement in response to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in United States v. Texas that upholds the injunction against President Obama’s executive actions on immigration, committing to fighting onwards for immigration reforms.

  • May 19, 2016 - 12 cities sign onto a joint public comment submitted to the U.S. State Department, providing recommendations on the size and scope of the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program.  

  • May 12, 2016 - Cities for Action issues a statement in response to reports of planned federal ICE raids targeting mothers and children from Central America for deportation. 

  • April 28, 2016 - Cities for Action issues a statement in support of the resolution to repeal elements of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 and the Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996. 

  • April 18, 2016Cities for Action hosted events across the country on the day of the oral arguments in the United States v Texas case, urging the Supreme Court to rule in favor of the President's executive action on immigration.

  • March 8, 2016 - 118 mayors and county leaders sign onto an amicus brief urging the U.S. Supreme Court to allow the President's executive action on immigration to move forward in the United States v. Texas case.  

  • February 15, 2016 – In line with commemorating Black History Month, Birmingham Mayor William Bell wrote an editorial to frame immigration as part of the Civil Rights Movement, and to voice support for the executive actions on immigration. 

  • January 7, 2016 – Cities for Action issues a statement in response to federal ICE raids targeting immigrant families from Central America for deportation.

  • December 3, 2015 – 84 mayors and county leaders sign onto an amicus brief urging the U.S. Supreme Court to review the appeal in the Texas v. United States case.

  • November 20, 2015 – Cities for Action hosted events across the country to mark the 1-year anniversary of the President’s Executive Action.

  • October 23, 2015 – Cities for Action echoed calls by leaders in the immigrant rights movement to move the Executive Action forward.

  • October 19, 2015 – In advance of the Senate vote on the Stop Sanctuary Policies and Protect Americans Act, Cities for Action issued a letter to Senate leadership in opposition, citing data on how the proposed funding cuts would impact cities. The legislation was successfully blocked the next day.

  • October 7, 2015 – Alongside the Welcoming America Summit in Maryland and Washington D.C., over 10 Cities for Action cities met with Congressional staff from key offices on current immigration-related issues.

  • October 2, 2015 – Cities for Action issues a statement commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, a landmark legislation that removed race-based quotas.

  • September 29, 2015 – NYC MOIA Commissioner Nisha Agarwal co-authors an Op-Ed with the Executive Director of the New York Immigration Coalition on the need for cities to embrace pro-immigrant policies welcoming policies, highlighting cities working alongside advocacy organizations.
